Families Walk in the 4th of July Parade
Despite the rain, sixty-two members of Marriage Equality and their allies formed a contingent for the Annual Freedom Parade on the Fourth of July. Moms and Dads pushing strollers, a tot in a wagon, and couples of all combinations demonstrated to the citizens of Champaign County that Equality of Marriage for all is a civil right and a good thing to do for all families.
Volunteers gathered prior to the parade to letter signs for marchers to carry. Diamond Automotive donated the use of a trailer. Pride and American flags plus dozens of rainbow colored balloons made the float festive and eye-catching.
Response from the crowds lining the parade route was extremely positive with clapping and cheering to bolster the participant’s spirits. Many thanks to everyone who participated in some way to make the day a success.
